The Idaho Falls Chukars, an independent team embarking on its 21st season in the MLB Partner Pioneer League, unveiled a set of new logos created by local production company IE Productions.

The new look features a three-quarter angle bird head that will serve as the Chukars’ primary logo, as well as an updated version of the team’s secondary throwing bird logo. The new set of logos includes “Chukars” and “Chuks” wordmarks with a stylized feather.

“We’re very excited about our first look at these updated logos, and we’re excited about additional logos, jerseys, hats and merchandise that will be rolled out throughout the spring,” General Manager of Baseball Operations Chris Hall said in a statement. “With these new looks, great support from our community and business partners, new promotions and giveaways, and success on the field, Melaleuca Field is definitely the place to be this summer.”

The logo update is the first since the team debuted in 2004 with marks created by Studio Simon. The nickname is a double entendre, incorporating a game bird found in southeast Idaho who is both a chukar and chucking a baseball.

The Chukars franchise has played in Idaho Falls since 1940, featuring nine different team names and 12 affiliations with Major League teams. The team’s current name resulted from a fan vote that occurred when the Idaho Falls Padres switched affiliations in 2004. The Chukars debuted as a rookie-level affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, which endured until 2020, when MLB’s shakeup of Minor League Baseball rendered the Pioneer League a partner league rather than an affiliated rookie level league.

The new-look Chuks will take the field April 20 on the road against the Boise Hawks.
