Texas on Friday night won its first NCAA softball championship, beating Texas Tech 10-4 in Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

The Red Raiders had forced the decisive Game 3 with a 4-3 win just 24 hours earlier, but they were unable to carry over that momentum.

Star pitcher NiJaree Canady, who through the first two games of the championship series and the first inning of the third had thrown every pitch for Texas Tech, gave up five hits and five earned runs on 25 pitches before being pulled.

It was the Longhorns’ eighth WCWS appearance.
