Israeli troops kill Palestinian teenager in West Bank ambush, keep body from family
Israel’s military has confiscated the body of a 16-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot dead on Thursday evening, a killing that marks the 22nd Palestinian child killed by Israeli forces since the start of the year.
Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) said the victim, Jihad Adham Rebhi Adeli, was shot along with two other young Palestinians in an Israeli ambush near the town of Osarin, south of Nablus.
Israeli forces also stopped ambulance crews from reaching the scene where the teenager was shot and killed.
“Now, even in death, Jihad cannot rest as Israeli authorities prevent his family from burying his body and mourning him,” DCIP’s Ayed Abu Eqtaish said in a statement.
The teenager’s body now joins the remains of some 41 other Palestinian children who were killed by Israeli forces since 2016 and whose bodies have been confiscated by the military and not returned to their families.
Israel’s policy of confiscating the bodies of slain Palestinians is not only a violation of international law, it is seen as a cruel means of “collective punishment” carried out on grieving families, DCIP said.
