OnePlus 13 vs. OnePlus 13R: Here’s What To Know About Their Specs and Features

OnePlus 13 vs. OnePlus 13R: Here’s What To Know About Their Specs and Features

The $900 OnePlus 13 and $600 OnePlus 13R debuted outside of China on Tuesday, with both phones sporting 6,000-mAh batteries, fast wired charging, water-resistant displays that can be used in wet environments and new (or newish) Qualcomm processors capable of speeding through most tasks and games.

While both phones on paper appear to be capable devices for most tasks, there are a lot of differences between them that justify their $300 price difference. The more expensive OnePlus 13 includes a slightly larger 6.82-inch display, the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a triple camera system that includes 50-megapixel cameras: wide, telephoto and ultrawide shooting.

But aside from beefier specs, the more expensive phone is also the only one to include wireless charging, which includes both Qi compatibility along with fast 50W wireless charging if using OnePlus’s AirVooc charger. The OnePlus 13 also supports wired 80W charging speeds in the US (100W outside the US) when using the OnePlus SuperVooc power adapter.

The $600 OnePlus 13R scales back on its features by using last year’s flagship Qualcomm processor and omitting wireless charging.

Though the cheaper OnePlus 13R lacks wireless charging, its inclusion of last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor should still allow it to be quite fast. It has a slightly smaller 6.78-inch display and its camera system includes 50-megapixel cameras with wide and ultrawide lenses alongside an 8-megapixel camera with a telephoto lens. The phone can charge at 55W speeds using the included SuperVooc power adapter, although a OnePlus representative said it can support 80W and 100W speeds, however you’ll have to buy those SuperVooc charger models separately. Over the more widely available USB-PD standard, it can charge at 18W speeds.

Both phones will also receive four years of software updates alongside six years of security updates, which is an improvement over the OnePlus 12’s four years of software updates and five years of security updates. The OnePlus 12R was pledged to receive one year less of each compared to the 12, so it’s nice to see that the 13 and the 13R sport identical policies.

Both phones also have AI features, but it’s a lighter touch compared to other phonemakers like Samsung and Google. Like other Android phones, the OnePlus 13 and 13R include Google’s Circle to Search and access to the Gemini AI assistant. OnePlus itself builds other AI features into its camera app and notes app, which include photo-editing features for unblurring images and text generation, respectively.
