Although the NFL announced its new “Rivalries” series will feature community-inspired alternate uniforms, multiple sources have indicated the blue helmet that went viral on social media on Monday will not be part of the Buffalo Bills’ upcoming design.

The helmet, which appeared at a press conference where the Bills announced Verizon as a founding sponsor of New Highmark Stadiumfeatures the Buffalo skyline behind their “Charging Buffalo” logo on one side and an airbrushed bison with renderings of the venue on the other.

The aforementioned sources suggested the helmets were commissioned specifically for the announcement, which makes sense considering the helmet model is no longer permitted by the NFL and they have all the telltale signs of a retail authentic, such as the old-school chinstrap.

It also wouldn’t be logical for the Bills, who are among the AFC East and NFC West teams set to debut their “Rivalries” uniforms this season, to wear a design that promotes their new stadium, which won’t open until 2026.

That said, the design brings to mind the airbrushed helmets that BYU wore in 2022, with the Wasatch Mountains on one side and a portrait of a cougar on the opposite side. Perhaps that was the inspiration for Verizon and the Bills, who won’t reveal their actual design until the fall.
