San Jose Earthquakes Give Sneak Peek of Archive Collection Third Jersey – SportsLogos.Net News

Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes used their California Clasico matchup this past weekend to give fans a sneak peek at their new retro third jersey.
During their match against cross-state rivals LA Galaxy on Saturday, June 28, the Earthquakes enlisted the help of San Francisco 49ers Hall of Famer Jerry Rice to model their yet-to-be-officially-released MLS x adidas Archive Collection third jersey in photos posted to their official Instagram account. The photos confirm leaked photos that had been circulating on the Internet for a couple of months.
The kit Rice is pictured wearing (apparently on top of the Quakes’ regular home kit and a collared shirt) features the crest and wordmark of the San Jose Clash, which is what the Earthquakes were known as when they joined MLS for its inaugural season in 1996. The mostly white kit features a gradient zigzag pattern on the sides and sleeves that incorporates the Clash’s original colour palette of teal, light blue, yellow, red and black.

The collar and sleeve cuffs are teal with light blue stripes through the middle, while the adidas shoulder stripes are teal.
Unlike other MLS x adidas Archive Collection “leaks” so far this season, the Earthquakes also gave us a look at the back of their jersey. It’s solid white with the same retro block font for the names and numbers that was used for the 2024 Archive Collection kits. In the Quakes’ case, the name is teal while the numbers are red with a teal outline and drop shadow.
San Jose’s MLS entry was known as the Clash from 1996 to 1999. The team changed their name to Earthquakes in 1999 to honour the former North American Soccer League club in the area. In 2005, the Earthquakes were relocated to Houston and were renamed Houston Dynamo, but MLS ruled that the club’s name, colors, history and competitive records would remain in San Jose for a future team to use. In 2008, the Earthquakes returned to MLS.
The Archive Collection kit doesn’t lift elements directly from any kit the team wore while they were known as the Clash. It might draw the most inspiration from their home kit from 1996, which was half-white, half-yellow on the front light and had blue triangles and teal stripes on the sleeves.
The MLS x adidas Archive Collection debuted in 2024 with third kits for five teams: LA Galaxy, Sporting Kansas City, Portland Timbers, Los Angeles Football Club and Inter Miami.
Other “leaked” 2025 Archive Collection kits include the Columbus Crewwhose kit was spotted on stage at a benefit concert in late May, and FC Dallaswho posted photos to social media last week of a former player wearing the kit.
