With their expansion draft complete and the clock counting down to their inaugural season tip-off in May 2025, the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries have unveiled a suite of secondary logos that introduces a new color to their palette.

The Valkyries unveiled the new secondary logos on their website and social media channels on Sunday, December 8. They include a “GSV” monogram and the figure, the bust and the head of a Valkyrie, a warrior woman from Norse mythology that the team is named after.

Interestingly, the new logos bring gold into the mix alongside black, white and “Valkyrie Violet” for a “regal, statuesque look.” Gold was not part of the Valkyries’ primary logo when it was unveiled in May 2024, nor does it feature on their inaugural season uniformswhich were launched earlier this month.

The GSV monogram features bevelled letters in the same custom font used in the team’s primary logos. The angles of letterforms are meant to mimic wings.

The Valkyrie figure shows the warrior in a powerful stance, holding a sword and a shield. The shield has basketball markings on it, while the sword design mimics the tower architecture of the Bay Bridge, which connects Oakland and San Francisco.

The bust logo features the Valkyrie emerging out of a V-shape similar to that in the team’s primary logo, which represents “unity in flight.” Her violet cape drapes over one arm while the other continues to hold her sword. The marking on the chest plate armor mimics the cables of the Bay Bridge.

The head logo depicts the Valkyrie wearing a winged helmet and looking down on the team from above to protect them.

Merchandise featuring the new logos is now available to purchase on the Valkyries’ online store.

The Valkyries open their inaugural WNBA season on Friday, May 16, when they host their cross-California rivals, the Los Angeles Sparks, at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
