Week 2 of the 2025 college baseball season is in the books, and thanks to a few upsets, there’s been a shake-up to this week’s top 25 poll. After dropping two games over the weekend, Virginia slid down the rankings, paving the way for LSU to claim the No. 2 spot. Oklahoma State, Nebraska and NC State dropped out of the rankings, while Oklahoma, Southern Mississippi and Ole Miss made their debuts.

Here’s how the entire top 25 rankings look for Week 2, plus one of our favorite plays of the week and what we’re watching for in the weeks to come.

Player to watch

Jace LaViolette, RF, Texas A&M

The outfielder has been a staple for the Aggies for the past two seasons, and this year is no different. ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel has him listed as his No. 1 prospect in the upcoming MLB draft and he was named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list. So far this season he has hit three home runs and recorded eight RBIs. The real challenge for him will come in the postseason — can he lead the Aggies back to the championship series, and can Texas A&M come out on top this time around?

Game to watch

No. 2 LSU vs. No. 19 Dallas Baptist (8 p.m. on Wednesday)

In what might as well be a home game for the Patriots, Dallas Baptist will face LSU in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota in Arlington, Texas. The Patriots suffered a setback last Tuesday after losing to Texas Rio Grande Valley 15-5; they had the lead entering the ninth before the Vaqueros recorded 11 runs on just five hits. One reason we’re watching though is pitcher Luke Pettitte, son of Hall of Famer Andy Pettitte. LSU, on the other hand, has had its usual dominant start to the season. The Tigers are the second-highest ranked team in the SEC behind Texas A&M, but a good performance against another ranked team might give them an edge.
