The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced in February they will celebrate their 50th season this fall with a commemorative logo, which will be worn as a patch on the left shoulder of their uniforms.

Shortly thereafter, the logo’s designer, Allan Peters, suggested in a since-deleted Instagram post that the Buccaneers might also reveal a throwback-inspired version of the logo and a white road version of their creamsicle throwback uniforms.

One detail we overlooked from Peters’ post, though, was that his mockup of Tampa Bay’s red home jersey also featured a modified pirate ship logo on the sleeves, adding “50 seasons” and the years 1976 and 2025 to the secondary logo’s sails.

The Buccaneers have not confirmed this change will actually take place, though it’s worth noting the only photo they’ve shown of the commemorative logo came with the patch placed on a jersey from the 2024 season.

If the design ultimately comes to fruition, Tampa Bay’s decision to add a special design to its existing secondary logo brings to mind college football programs wearing rose-accented helmet decals and/or shoulder logos in the Rose Bowl.

That said, the Buccaneers did confirm the existence of throwback-inspired version of the logo, as they recently posted a photo showing Bucco Bruce and a fluorescent orange and red-outlined patch on their creamsicle jerseys.

Peters, meanwhile, shared another post on Instagram last week that gave us a behind-the-scenes look at his processincluding logos that were left on the cutting room floor and how the final design was achieved.

“Everything felt a little off until I started integrating the numbers from the jerseys to create all the numbers throughout,” Peters said. “That way, when you see it on the jersey, it matches directly and it feels like it belongs there. It feels like it’s part of the brand package.”
